Specification

Dive shop operations for small independent PADI, SSI and SDI businesses.

There is no public site to visit yet. When Fathom has one, it will be linked from this page.

What it is

A small dive shop's calendar is a constraint problem wearing a whiteboard. A course needs an instructor, a student-to-instructor ratio, pool time and open water. Tanks need filling. Rental kit has to be serviced, in the shop, and the right size before the boat leaves. Then the certification paperwork has to reach the agency after everyone is back on the dock.

Fathom is the operations software for a business of that size — the shop running on a paper waiver folder, a booking spreadsheet and the owner's memory. It covers the schedule of courses and trips, the customers and their certification records, equipment and its servicing intervals, and the records each training agency expects a shop to keep.

The agency affiliations matter because they define the paperwork. A shop affiliated with PADI, SSI or SDI works to that agency's course structures, prerequisites and record-keeping, and software that ignores the difference just moves the problem into a spreadsheet. Fathom is built for shops with one or more of those affiliations rather than for a generic booking calendar.

PADI, SSI and SDI are named here only to say whose records the software has to produce. Hazard Labs is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a training partner of any certification agency.

Who it is for

Owners and instructors at small independent dive shops, where the person running the schedule also teaches the courses.

Where it is

Specification phase. The specification is written and under revision in its own repository; there is no application code and no public trial. Pricing, availability and the feature set past the specification are undecided, and are not published here until they are.
