We own the product, not the engagement. Every property here has a written specification in version control before it has a line of application code, and the specification stays the thing the code is answerable to.
Hazard Labs builds and runs its own software.
We are an incubator. We pick the problems ourselves, write the specification, build the product, and then run it — hosting, support, and the consequences of our own decisions. Small products, built properly, kept in the open.

Run
We host what we build, on hardware we administer, and we answer for it when it breaks. Send to Hermes runs on the lab network today; the rest is being built to run the same way.
Stand alone
Each property answers to its own users. There is no shared account, no common platform underneath them, and nothing is cross-sold from one to another.

How we work
Five habits, applied to everything here
- Specification first
- Decisions get dated and written down. Open questions stay listed until they are answered.
- Self-hosted
- Our own infrastructure, our own backups, and as few external services as the job allows.
- Small surface area
- Fewer features and fewer dependencies. Everything shipped is something to keep alive.
- Shipped over announced
- The status on each property here is the state of its repository, not a roadmap.
- Honest about maturity
- A specification is labelled a specification. Nothing is described as available before it is.
