We Love Shinny

Specification

Running the operational side of pick-up hockey: seasons, ice times, attendance, goalies, payments.

There is no public site to visit yet. When We Love Shinny has one, it will be linked from this page.

What it is

A shinny group is a recurring ice booking, a list of players, and a float of cash. One person books the sheet, collects the money, counts who is coming, and finds a goalie when both of the regulars cancel. That work is done in group chats and spreadsheets, and it does not survive the person doing it losing interest.

We Love Shinny is software for that work. A group defines a season and the ice times in it. Players register for a season or drop into a single skate. The platform tracks who has paid and who has not, prices skates and seasons, and counts goalie slots separately from skater slots — a skate with no goalie is not a skate. Each group gets a landing page on its own sub-domain for recruiting, and the organiser gets rosters and attendance history instead of scrollback.

The last ten metres of the problem happen at the rink door, so there is a mobile app: a player registers and shows proof of payment on their phone, and the organiser sees the night's list without opening a laptop.

The product takes a position on what shinny is. The order of priority is fun, then fitness, then quality of hockey. Features that rank players by ability and turn a pick-up skate into a tryout are out of scope by decision, not by omission.

Who it is for

Organisers who book the ice and chase the money for a recurring pick-up hockey group, and the players who skate in it.

Where it is

Specification phase. The product specification is written and under revision in its own repository; there is no application code, no beta, and nothing to sign up for. No launch date and no pricing have been decided, so none are published here.
